The Dutch language contains an estimated one million or more words. Add all words that have gone out of use, and we are talking about several million. The Institute for Dutch Lexicology (Instituut voor Nederlandse Lexicologie, or INL) in Leiden collects and studies these Dutch words, stores them in databases - along with various additional data - and uses them to make scholarly dictionaries. The Dutch HLT Agency (TST-Centrale) manages and preserves digital language resources and facilitates their availability. By using state-of-the-art techniques the INL presents itself as a dynamic, innovative organisation. Increasingly more INL products are available through the Internet, making the treasury of the Dutch language accessible to all.
